We're buying a house!
{eek!}
This is our first time + we're pretty excited.
We found a cute little house in an amazing neighborhood.
It is 131 years old.
{I will get back to you on how that goes.}
We'll move sometime in November.
It needs some a lot of updates. Orange shag carpet? Check, baby.
Our first two goals are the floors and the walls.
The kitchen comes next.
I always thought that once I owned a home, I'd go hog wild with bright paint, but now that it comes to it, I'm irresistibly drawn to grey + white. It is so modern, so clean, so versatile. I am a little bit worried that the wrong shade could make the house feel depressing, but I think the right shade would feel relaxing and, well, ahhhh. Here are some of my favorite grey + white images of late...
Happy weekend, friends! It has been a crazy week here and I know we're looking forward to some down time together. See you soon!

Oh, Congratulations! What an exciting time!
What fun. I am the same with wall color this time around. I've painted lots of colors, this time I want something soothing and more uniform. I am looking at a Valspar color called tranquility (from their independent retailers, not Lowes) It's a warm grey with a hint of green. :)
Congrats! Buying a house is fun and nerve wracking at the same time. I've always wanted to buy an old house, you are so lucky!
As far as the grey/white/modern/simple color scheme, it sounds like a trip to IKEA is in order!
oh my gosh, congrats! I cant wait for the house posts to come:) I cant wait till the day when we can purchase a house too and until then I will have to live through your updates ;)
congrats! owning a home is super fun, and a little terrifying, but mostly fun!
Yippee! Congratulations!! I hope you'll share lots of photos! :)
Congrats!! I hope the move goes smoothly for ya.
Congrats!! How very exciting! I love your inspiration - that last room looks so cozy!
woot woot for buying a house! it's indeed exhilarating and scary at the same time.
we put gray in our whole house except kitchen and bedrooms. it's wonderful. just an fyi-pick a gray with a brown undertone so that it doesn't turn out bluish if you don't want it to. in our entry with the lighting it sometimes looks a bit bluey.
can't wait to see some pics.
I'm so happy you found a place! 131 years old?!! I cannot wait to see pics!
Congratulations! I can't wait to see it. Our first house was a 100 yr old farm house and I still miss it. So what if it was drafty (read FREEZING) in the winter and full of mice all summer. CHARACTER. There's a Better Homes and Gardens article from like 2005ish called "Industrial Cottage" that I think you'd go nuts for. All grey and white, gorgeous, homey, and somehow very chic. Course it'll take some diggin' to find it, but that's why the good Lord invented google. :)
I am totally in love with that last bedroom picture! I want the whole thing. Seriously!!!
Congrats and have fun moving.
I am so excited for you! I am loving your gray/white inspirations. Good luck with getting rid of that orange shag :)
Yay! I'm glad the right time has come to buy a home! And an old beautiful home! I'm so excited to see what you do with it!! I love color, but I'm loving more and more my grey-walled fireplace family room. I was actually thinking the other day that my next house I want more grey in it.
Do you find yourself constantly thinking about how to change home and what to add/take away from it? I found myself dreaming about it almost nightly! It's so fun! Good luck!!
PS our first try of grey in our family room looked very much like periwinkle. So make sure to get a variety of grey paint samples to try on the wall. And look, too, at the grey-ish tans. Next to grey they look tan, but next to tan they look a very rustic shade of grey, instead of a purple-y grey. Just a tip.
